Flashback Photo

I was looking through some photos the other day, and came across this photo of our little man.

This was a picture before we found out about his allergies. His poor face was always red and rashy like this. If you look real close you can see little scratch marks, from him constantly scratching his face. If you think this looks bad, you should see what his bottom always looked like.

Speaking of bottoms, we are going through something else right now. Our little man sure has been scratching his bottom a lot lately. It is getting real rashy again. Last night he kept saying his tummy hurt too. Today, no complaints.

I know all you allergy moms out there can relate. It feels like a scary roller coaster I'm riding on. I sure did appreciate all your supportive comments on the funk I had been in. Hopefully I am coming out of it. I know I will feel much better when we get through the holidays without an incident.

I have been planning my Thanksgiving menu, so I have been looking through lots of recipe books and magazines. Is it me, or does it seem like every other page has a nut filled recipe on it? Peanut butter this, almond this, hazelnut gooey this, or that. I am so sick of seeing nut recipe's I could scream.

Okay, so I am done venting. How much difference do you think no nutmeg in a pumpkin pie is going to make? That's right we are allergic to nutmeg too.

Here is a new photo for your viewing pleasure, this makes it all worth it.

  1. Oh, no!!! I've read that nutmeg is safe for peanut/tree nut allergies on FAAN! *scratching head* We've used it with no problems thus far. you could try ground cloves in the pie. It offers full flavor, too, maybe even more than nutmeg. ; )

BTW, my son always had a rashy face, too. Go figure.

  2. Never thought of NUTmeg. Although, it makes sense, of course. After reading the comment from Jeanne, I hope you are able to use it. Good luck finding recipes. I'm sure you will have a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. :)

  3. Hopped over to your site from Candy's...I am so glad I did! My son is allergic to tree nuts. He can eat peanuts with no problem. His allergy seems to have gotten worse as he gets older. I used to cook things with nuts in it and just have the food in the house for everyone else. That started affecting him, so I don't even bring nuts into the house now.

Regarding the nutmeg...Perhaps you could use cinnamon, instead.

Hope your little guys rash and tummy get better!

    Blessings...

  5. Hi Elaine
If his bottom is still red, why don't you try triplepaste (wargreen sells it)
By the way, we are "locking" the blog for now, giving it a try since a friend of suggesting the "safety and privacy" issue. You know my email, send me a note and I will send along the password.

  6. I dont really like nutmeg so I dont think it will make the pie taste less delicious! I LOVE that picture of you and your son--it is soooo sweet!

  8. Like everybody else, love the picture of you and your son!

    You're doing a great job.

P.S. Don't worry about the nutmeg. I like it but it seems no kids that I know like it at all! :)

  9. Fellow allergy mom here.
I tried to post, but I don't think it went through.
    I'll try again.

I found your blog through MckMama's....I have a 15 month old little boy with food allergies also. Milk, egg and peanut. I go through the same emotions all the time. It is nice to know that I am not alone. We also battled a very bad case of eczema....your story sounds TOO FAMILIAR!!

Glad that I found you, hope we can keep in touch!

p.s. your little man is adorable!!
